Greetings UFVA members, friends, and community:
Since 1947, the University Film & Video Association has been dedicated to advancing the study and teaching of the cinematic arts. This year our dynamic community of artists, researchers, writers, teachers and scholars will gather in historic Savannah, Georgia on July 19-21. Our conference theme is The Garden of Cinema: Cultivating the Future of Media Arts.
Again we will spotlight and share our innovative filmmaking, scholarship, scriptwriting, new media, and pedagogy across all our areas of professional achievement. As post-pandemic effects impair some members’ ability to travel, the UFVA Board is piloting a new model this year of three (3) in-person dates and one (1) virtual day of conferencing.
Primary conference events such as speakers, panels, vendors, screenings, workshops and exhibitions will be presented as usual at the three-day in-person conference. The virtual conference day will allow for a limited number of presentations. There will be a separate, lower registration fee for the virtual day, TBD. If you register for the in-person conference, the virtual day is included.
The exchange of ideas at UFVA is valuable, and we welcome the opportunity to foster new relationships and rekindle old ones with our peers. Traditional events such as golf, basketball, the picnic and banquet will be held.
The in-person conference will be held at the picturesque Georgia Southern Armstrong Campus in Savannah, GA. This suburban campus is ten miles from downtown Savannah, known for its scenic green spaces and beautiful Riverwalk. The conference picnic, with transportation from/to GSU Armstrong provided, will take place in downtown Savannah. Yet as the city and region are so deep in places to go and things to see, should you arrive a day early or stay late, you won’t lack for anything to do.
Please note the Georgia Southern University Armstrong Campus is a separate campus from GSU’s primary campus in Statesboro (about an hour away); do not confuse the two.
The major airport nearest to GSU Armstrong is Savannah/Hilton Head International (SAV) about 24 miles away. If you are not renting a car, please plan to rideshare, commercial shuttle, or car pool to/from GSU Armstrong.
On-site dorm housing at GSU Armstrong will be available and information about nearby hotels will be distributed. Information about all conference fees will be distributed before registration opens in April.
In-person attendees should plan to arrive by the evening of July 18th. (Board members should arrive by July 17th for meetings the following day. Foundation members are meeting virtually on July 18th.)

Conference submissions will open at the end of this week with a further announcement!

See you soon in Georgia!
Sincerely,

Marc May
