In the Spotlight today is the Portland Film Festival (PDXFF), taking the festival circuit by storm. This vibrant festival has already earned significant recognition from MovieMaker Magazine as one of the “Top 25 Coolest Festivals” and “Top 50 Festivals Worth the Entry Fee.” PDXFF is focused on the people, ideas, technology, skills and artistry behind filmmaking and curates a spectacular program that provides ample entertainment and learning opportunities for all. Last year 100% of films programmed were from open submissions.
The Festival offers a rich program of films in the Fiction, Non-Fiction, World Cinema, Television and Episodic, Transmedia, Indigenous Voices, LatinX, LGBTQA+, military veterans, VR, Short and Student Filmmaking categories including a new category focused on short form advertising spots and our local program of Portland based stories and filmmakers. PDXFF offers emerging and established artists to present their films in a world-class screening environment, with curated competitions, Audience Awards, and opportunities to reach attending members of the national press as well as nationally recognized Jury members.
The Festivals partnerships with SAG AFTRA, IATSE, Northwest Documentary, Comast NBC Universal, Oregon’s Governor’s Office of Film, Film Fatales, Women in Film and others to ensure a big industry and filmmaker attendance every year. Past attendees and alumni include Aisha Tyler, Mario Van Peebles, Joe Dante, Sam Hamm, Mark Boone Junior, Eli Roth, Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Josh McDermitt, Abby Elliott, Chris Williams, Chuck Palahniuk, Jason Mamoa, Doug Benson, and many more. Mingling with some of the most creative artists is just one perk of the festival, winning filmmakers also can earn cash prizes in most categories. PDXFF also presents almost many workshops to participate in and Q&As from industry insiders where filmmakers can learn and connect with new friends and future partners.
