In the Spotlight today is the Slamdance Screenplay Competition, dedicated to discovering emerging writing talent. Since 1995 Slamdance has established a strong track record for identifying and supporting new screenwriters. The competition welcomes screenplays in every genre, on any topic, from anywhere in the world. In addition to awarding a total of $16,000 USD in cash prizes, a key benefit of the competition is that it provides basic feedback for every entrant and also offers in depth coverage services.

More than a competition, Slamdance aims to offer guidance and opportunities to its writers. Year after year, production companies, studios, top agencies, esteemed management companies, independent producers ask to read and acquire Slamdance’s top selections “The Slamdance Screenplay Competition is like an adrenalin boost to the cortex. It gave me the oomph necessary to climb faster and leap up to a higher rung. Slamdance is a celebration of not just offbeat storytelling, but above all, character. Character infects every vein of this festival and it’s a beautiful thing,” Andrew Kightlinger, 2016 Grand Prize and Feature Screenplay Winner forGreat White Shark.

A Grand Prize $8,000 cash award will be presented to the competition’s best screenplay, regardless of its category. The winners of the Feature, Horror, TV Pilot, and Short categories will receive $2,000 in cash, each. All winners will also receive a pass for Slamdance Film Festival 2019 in Park City, Utah.
