We are happy to announce the details about our first ever virtual conference held from July 27 to July 30, 2020.
We know how difficult it has been for those of you who had to hurriedly construct online production courses you?d never taught before while worrying about the pandemic and everyone’s mental health (including your own). We have devised a plan we hope will soothe the chaos of this frantic semester. Rest assured you can still present your work, meet up with colleagues, listen to insightful papers, attend workshops, enjoy amazing films, and visit with vendors.
The overall online conference experience will be like our face-to-face events, with all sessions having a live component.Your session will operate like any other UFVA session, with a moderator from the panel who will facilitate each person to present their paper, script, or film, as in a face-to-face event. We believe this will allow for optimal engagement and participation. There will be opportunities for informal chats with other attendees, who will be able to reach out to you via the conference site. You can then set up informal meet-up sessions while at the conference. You can even create and print your own agenda based on your presentation and interests.
Vendors will have a virtual booth area where you can visit and schedule individual chat times. These can be arranged at mutually convenient times.Institutional members will have an opportunity to highlight their programs on the conference site, as well. This will allow them to link to a program or admissions page for their institution. For more information on vendor/institutional opportunities, please contact Mark von Schlemmer at vonSchlemmer@ucmo.edu.
We are also planning virtual cocktail parties where we can all hang out together.
If you submitted a film, script, paper, panel, new media project or workshop, you should have received a submission response from the co-chairs with additional information. Only members who previously submitted will be able to present. The conference site design process will be happening soon. Once it is complete, you will be able to review the conference schedule.
Here is the best part: There will be no additional cost to members for this conference. Just come as you are (so to speak). If you have a student, friend, or colleague who is not a member but who would like to join us for the conference, their cost will be $30.00.
There will be further emails with event details coming soon.
I would like to thank you all for your patience and support.I would also like to especially acknowledge our industrious Conference VP, Wenhwa Ts’ao, who has been tirelessly working towards the transformation of our conference to a virtual event.
I look forward to conferencing with all of you in July.
