Dear Colleagues,
My name is Prof. Idit Dvir and I am a member of Women in Media, a non-profit organization that champions gender balance in film and entertainment industries by providing networking, professional development, and advocacy for above and below the line women.
To that end, WiM launched last summer our CAMERAderie Initiative, producing the top 3 short screenplays in Los Angeles. Winners were provided financing, crew and access to industry resources from sponsors such as Cinelease, Sigma, Blackmagic Design, NBCUniversal etc. ProducerEffie Brown (DEAR WHITE PEOPLE) and DirectorColin Trevorrow (JURASSIC WORLD) were among the professionals mentoring our finalists. The films were showcased to the industry last fall and as a result two of our winners are slated to shoot their first feature projects, one had her short accepted at Tribeca FF and a semi-finalist was accepted to the IFP Episodic Lab with the TV version of her submission. This year, Women In Media’s CAMERAderie: Act One will again be looking for the best 3 short screenplays to produce: we will invest in mentoring our Semi-finalists so they submit the best possible scripts to the Finals; finalists will be granted industry access to fine-tune their skillset to ensure they produce the best possible version of their vision. As in our inaugural year, I am spearheading the judging process. We are looking for judges – male or female, academia and/or professionals – to judge the script submissions competing for the production prizes. Reading will take place between September 10-23. We will provide criteria and a rubric for judging.
